In a message dated 2/21/2011 5:56:35 P.M. Central Standard Time, Hello Mr. Goodlove,

My name is C B and I am a sophomore in college. For my US history class I am required to write a genealogical paper about my family. My grandma is P Goodlove, which makes me the great-great-great-grandson of William Harrison Goodlove. I saw on your web page that you have a copy of his journal and that you are willing to give others copies. My family and I would all love it if you could give us a copy, I would be particularly ecstatic because of my interest in the Civil War. I was also interested in what was in the books you donated to the Central City library, is there any information not on your web page or are they identical? I look forward to hearing your answers to my questions.

Many thanks,
C B

C, Your grandmother is my first cousin, 1x removed. Thank you for contacting me. I will help in anyway I can in this or any other family history inquiry. To get you going on your project we have three options:

1. Go to my blog www.thisdayingoodlovehistory.blogspot.com . Every day I put in something to the blog from William Harrison Goodlove's Civil War Diary of which I annotated. There is also other information about the civil war along with that. You may find some other things of interest in the blog. If you have any questions about this let me know. The diary takes place in 1864 so basically you can start today and move backward everyday and read the whole thing. Missing on the blog are pictures and other things.

2. AT the "Farmers Daughter Market" in Hiawatha, Iowa my sister might have some copies for sale there. Let me know if you need the address.

3. I could print the latest version and bind it and mail it to you. This would be the most expensive and time consuming way as it might take a few weeks for you to receive it. It would cost about $50.

Good luck with your search and I hope to hear about you project in the future. Maybe you could send me a copy of your paper when you are finished.

Jeff Goodlove

This Day…

February 22, 1290 B.C.E: The coronation of Ramses II, who, according to some, is the Pharaoh of the Exodus. Since the Bible does not mention the Pharaoh by name, Ramses is not the only candidate. In addition to which, there is some debate among Egyptologist as to when Ramses actually came to power. According to some, his reign began in 1297 BCE.[1]

1290 BC: Among Ramesses’ laborers are Asiatic ‘Apiru. This may lie behind the biblical tradition (Exodus 1:11) that Hebrew slaves built the city of Ramesses.[2]

Ramesses started work on on a new city called Per-Ramessu, a name that means “Domain of Ramesses”. Located at the northeast part of the Nile delta, it has special significance. Hebrews had lived peacefully around the Nile delta for 400 years, but concerned over their numbers, Ramesses, like his father before him may have forced them into the hard labor of constructing this new city. [3]

1280 B.C.:

Written in 1280 BC, the Egyptian Book of the Dead describes a god, Horus…

Horus is the son of the god Osiris…

…born to a virgin mother…

He was baptized in a river by Anup, the Baptizer…

…who was later beheaded.

Like Jesus, Horus was tempted

while alone in the desert…

Healed the sick…

The blind…

Cast out demons…

And walked on the water…

He raised Asar from the dead.

“Asar translates to “Lazarus”.

Oh yeah, and he also had 12 disciples.

Yes Horus was crucified first…

And after 3 days,

Two women announced…

Horas, the savior of humanity…

Had been resurrected.[4]

1279-1213/12 BCE Reign of Ramses II. The traditional period of the plagues of Egypt and the Exodus.[5]

1274 B.C.E.With Hatusa’s defense in a state of readiness Prince Atusily’s left the city in the year 1274 B.C.E. Appointed commander and Chief of the Hittite army, he set off to face Ramses, the most powerful ruler of the ancient world. At the border town of Kadesh the two armies prepared to clash. Egyptian temples claim Ramses won a magnificent battle. When Hatusa’s was discovered it was found that the Hittite records indicate that they were the victors.[6]

1265 B.C.E: Prince Atusili seized the throne from his unpopular nephew King Mutually.

Hittites were known as the people of a thousand God’s. They were also known as the people of a thousand laws.[7]

Atusili and Tutahephop construct an open air sancuary of Husicalaya. The whole sanctuary is dedicated to the storm god. It is a procession of all the gods and godesses to a central figure, the storm god. This is a new pantheon. This is a new god brought This is a new god that Tutahephop, Atulili III’ wife brought from Selicia, south of the empire when she came to marry the king. Tutahephop attemted to unify the empires thousand gods into groups of similar gods. It seemed to be an attempt to unify the empire, but other groups seemed to be pulling it apart. [8]

1263 BC: It is from here around the year 1263 BC the story of the Exodus in the Bible probably took place.[9]

February 22, 1349 A.D.: In Zurich, Switzerland, the town council tried to protect the Jews of the town, they were forced to give in to the mob, resulting in the murder of many of the Jewish inhabitants. The Jews were then forced to leave.[10]

1349-1360

Jews move from Hungary to Termopol, Russia, in 1349-1360.[11]

1350 Jews move from Crimea near the Black Sea to Kiev, Russia in 1350.[12]

1350 Jews expelled from Crimea [to Poland].[13]

1350

Lachlan, Called Sa’gartach, or Fogarach-Supposed to be the same who was concealed in MacKinnon’s Cave in Mull when pursued by the MacLeans.[14]

1350

It could appear that, on the death of John of the Isles, (circa. 1350) MacKinnon, with what object it is impossible now to ascertain, stirred up John's second son, John Mor, to rebel against his eldest brother, apparently with a view to the chiefship, and his faction was joined by the MacLeans and MacLeods. But Donald, the elder brother, was supported by so great a proportion of the tribe, that he drove John Mor and his party out of the isles, pursuing him to Galloway, and from thence to Ireland. The rebellion being thus put down, John Mor threw himself upon his brother's mercy and received his pardon, but MacKinnon was taken and hanged, as being the instigator of the disturbance. [15]

February 22, 1475: The first known Hebrew book, a copy of the TaNaCh, was printed in Italy.[16]

1478

In 1478, the pope authorized the creation of an Inquisition like that which, in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, had suppressed a variety of heresies in southern France and which had functioned during the fourteenth century in Spain.[17]

February 22, 1495: King Charles VIII of France enters Naples to claim the city's throne. Following the expulsion from Spain, Jews had found refuge in Naples thanks to King Ferdinand of Naples. When Ferdinand died his son Alfonso replaced him on the throne. Charles deposed Alfonso. During his short lived reign over the Italian city, the situation of the Jews worsened. Fortunately, a mixed bag of political and religious leaders drove Charles back to France. Unfortunately, the Jews of Naples would be expelled from their Italian haven in 1510.[18]

1496-97 Portugal [to Holland, Brazil and Maghreb] {bear in mind the "official" discovery of Brazil, by Portugal, was in 1500!!}[19]

During 1497, Jews, both children and adults, were physically dragged into church and forcibly baptized. Others voluntarily accepted Christianity in order to remain in the country and escape enslavement to the monarch, the penalty for accepting neither expulsion nor conversion. In the end relatively little emigration under the order occurred, and most Jews became New Christians rather than face enslavement.[20]

1499: Jews expelled from Germany.[21]

1500

Isle of Iona in the Reilig Orain (S. Oran's Chapel),

The altar slab of the Cathedral itself came from MacKinnon's country of Strath. It was one of the finest pieces of marble ever seen, being granulated and pure white. No trace of it now remains. Close to the altar on the north side of the choir, is a tomb stone of black marble quite entire, on which is a very fine recumbent figure of the Abbot MacFingon, as large as life, in his sacred robes, with a crozier in one hand, and the other lifted up to his chin, elbowing two lions at one end, and spurning two at the other. This elegant tomb stone which has always been considered the stateliest in the island, is supported by four pedestals about one foot high, and round the margin is the inscription, "Hic jacet Johannes Macfingone Abbas de Hy [Iona,] qui obiit anno Domini millessimo quingen tessimo [I500], Cujus animae propitietur DEUS altissimus. Amen." [22]

1500

Linguists believe that as many as “age of exploration.” Today only 6,000 spoken languages are left, and perhaps as many as 90 percent of these will be lost by the end of this century. We are losing a language every two weeks through the same migration process that is mixing the world’s genetic lineages. [23]

1500

Go back twenty generations, to about 1500 CE, and there could be, theoretically, over one million ancestors who could have contributed to your nuclear genes. In practice, many of these potential ancestors will actually be the same individuals, whose lines of descent have come down to you along different pathways, crossing between males and females through the generations in an unpredictable way. Tracing the genealogy of all 30,000 genes through this maze of interconnections would be quite impossible.[24]

1500

The Spanish brought horses to America about 1500.[25]

February 22, 1501: On this day and the following day, two tremendous auto-de-fe's took place in Toledo. A woman prophet and over 100 of her followers were burned. The woman envisioned those Jews who had previously died as martyrs were taken to heaven, and the Jewish Messiah was speedily going to return the Jews to the Promised Land.[26]

1502: Henry XIII father get tuberculosis, spreading it to his oldest son, who dies. Henry becomes first in line to the throne at age ten.[27]

February 22, 1630: Popcorn is invented by Quadequina, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.[28]

In the spring of 1630, a fleet of ships led by the Arrabela, appeared off the coast to the north of Plymouth, Massachusetts carrying a thousand new immigrants. While the Pilgrims had been escaping Europe, these puritans meant to recreate a new more pious England, in America.

February 22, 1656: The Jews in New Amsterdam were granted, "A little hook of land situate [sic] outside of this city for a burial place." This cemetery land was located by the Bowery, near Oliver Street in what is now lower Manhattan. It would be another month before Jews were granted the right to own real estate. Public Jewish worship would not be an accepted matter of fact until the turn of the century. The establishment of a burial society and cemetery is a matter of major importance for any Jewish community. It was sign of permanence and belonging. Following the defeat of the Dutch by the English in 1664, New Amsterdam would become New York.[29]

February 22, 1732 George Washington is born to Augustine and Mary (Ball) Washington at Wakefield Farm, Westmoreland County, Virginia. George Washington to Isaac Heard, May 2, 1792, on the Washington family genealogy

Tobias Lear, secretary to Washington, to Clement Biddle, February 14, 1790, on the new calendar and Washington's birthday[30]

They took up a Patent called "Milltown" in Washington County, PA, February 22, 1786. They had ten children(37). (The records of Pennsylvania were not research for additional information.) [37]

On March 29, 1759 Daniel McKinnon placed the following advertisement in the Maryland Gazette: "Whereas Ruth M'Kinnon formerly spouse to the subsriber, is forever hereafter justly separated and discharged from me, because her having lately brought into my Family an adulterous Child, which was begot about the beginning of June 1758, while I was absent in Britian; being born in full Time and Health on the second of this Instant March; These are therefore to forewarn all Persons of whatsoever Denomination, for the future, from dealing with, or trusting her on my account, for I do hereby solemnly protest, that I will not (according to Law) pay so much as a Farthing of any Debt or Debts, which she may contract from the date hereof.

Daniel M'Kinnon" [38]

Maryland appears to have had no divorce law prior to the Constitution of 1851 and the March 1759 publication in the Maryland Gazette is considered by some as a divorce. It should be noted that no other information has been located for Ruth McKinnon (wife of Daniel) in the records Anne Anne Arundel County or any place the McKinnon family was located after 1759.[39]

Well, until today.

February 22, 1865

The big social event was Washington’s Birthday. Here was an occasion both Confederates and Federals could honor, and the church bells rang from noon until one o’clock. Southern belles were well represented, both at the park concerts and at the public establishments. Captain Lucas was delighted that the ladies had recovered from their apparent fear of Yankees and were now moving about openly. Rigby acknowledged that several balls and dancing parties had been gotten up for the evening if anyone cared for such a demonstration. Sergeant Hoag, the color bearer of the 24th, was one who cared for such entertainment. He received a free ticket to the Military Ball at St. Andrews Hall for bringing the regimental colors to decorate the auditorium. The sergeant affirmed that he had a very good time, not leaving until one o’clock in the morning with a headache.[45].
