You seem to be having a lot of those lately...very cool!

November 22, 1963

John F. Kennedy, twenty fifth President of the United States, dies after being shot by Lee Harvey Oswald while driving in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas.[1]

Sherri, I don't know what all these coincidences mean but they are very cool. What are the odds of unknowingly buying a used Jackie O book the day before? Enjoy your day. Jeff

I am looking forward to the story at our December Meeting. M

M, sorry I have not called about tennis. I've been injured for about six weeks with tennis elbow and it has not gone away so I am just waiting it out. I will let you know when it feels better. Jeff

Jeff:

I have been thinking about evidence that might establish a link or deny a link between Conrad and Franz. I hope you don't mind a couple of questions.

Has Gary found any documents signed by Conrad before the 1823 deeds to Hamilton? Do you have any document written (not just signed) by Conrad?

You wrote me about a family tradition that Samuel Godlove attended Conrad's funeral. Do you know the source of that tradition? Is there perhaps a local newspaper article that mentions attendees of the funeral?

Thanks for the help.

Jim

Jim, The marriage license which I included from 1819 is not his signature but the signature of Saul Henckle,, who married them so that does not help.

FYI, Caty's father Daniel is the presiding judge in Clark county...

The first Court of Common Pleas held in Clark County after the county was organized was on April 7, 1818, with Orrin Parish as Presiding Judge; Daniel McKinnon, Joseph Tatman and Joseph Layton, Associates.[1][1]

October 5, 1814

As a point of reference it should be noted that a Methodist Service was held at Judge McKinnon's house in 1812. This may be one the earliest known Methodist service's this far west. JG

The life on Buck Creek for Conrad and Caty was close to Caty’s family, close to church, close to nature and close to each other as they became parents of six children, probably in a log cabin. You may observe on page 678 (Ref. 9.4) that the first meeting of the Methodist Episcopal Church “was held in the log house of Judge McKinnon on the banks of Buck Creek, where New Moorefield now stands.”[3][1]

The War of 1812, Conrad Godlove but... I don't think its his signature.

Another form but ...I don't think that is his signature either.

Out of time for today. more later. Jeff Goodlove

December 9th 1775

On the 9th of December, Captain Fordyce, at the Head of party of British Grenadiers, in attempting to storm the breastwork, was repulsed by a most destructive and bloody fire. After this, Dunmore with most of his followers, took refuge on board his vessels. The Virginians marched into Norfolk, and annoyed the enemy by fireing into their vessels. In retaliation, Dunmore cannonaded the town, and on the 1st of January, 1776, landed a party, who, under cover their cannon, set fire to the houses on the river which had sheltered the provincials. The committee of safety ordered Colonel Robert to destroy the remainder of the town, to prevent the British from making it a permanent post. Norfolk, then the most populous town in Virginia, containing about 6,000 inhabitants.

Colonels Woodford and Stevens assisted Colonel Howe in the command at Norfolk. Besides the two regiments already raised, the convention resolved to raise seven more. Six of these were placed on the Continental Establishment, to whose officers Congress granted commissions, in order, beginning with Colonel Henry of the first, and ending with Colonel Buckner, of the 6th regiment.

nine wounded and the English Light Infantry lost about 100 altogether.”

Rueffer also noted the von Mirbach Regiment’s return to New York prior to the end of the year[5]
