To M,

I was just at the spertus institute. I was looking for anything from an
author named abraham baer gottlober, a direct ancestor of a dna match. They
had one, plus a doctoral disertation. Very cool. Also i was looking at a
program and an upcoming concert called the songs of solomon presented by
spertus will be held at northwestern mon nov 8. Alas. But the interesting
thing is the director is someone i sang at church with. He was my voice
teacher. But get this...he walked into the library just then. He sings at a
synagoge in chicago. Small world!

I like your world outlook; it is better to search for the ties that unite us
rather than to promulgate the issues that divide us. Are you familiar with
the 1840's American political party known as the Anti-Masonic Party? It is
also important to study and understand the root causes of hatred in the hope
that we can do the right things to avoid history repeating itself. M

M, It is better to search for ties that unite us as you said. I am familiar with the the Anti-Masonic Party through some of my family history research and through a show on the History Channel. My first cousin, 9 times removed is Andrew Jackson who I have discovered recently was also a Mason. I will look into this Anti-Masonic movement more and see what I can learn from this.

In the 1832 presidential election, Ancestor and President Andrew Jackson easily won re-election as the candidate of the Democratic Party against Henry Clay, of the National Republican Party, and William Wirt, of the Anti-Masonic Party. Jackson jettisoned Vice President John C. Calhoun because of his support for nullification and involvement in the Eaton Affair, replacing him with long-time confidant Martin Van Buren of New York.[1][1]

November 2, 1832

Andrew Jackson (1st cousin, 9 times removed) is reelected president.[2][2]

I discovered our connection to Andrew Jackson while visiting the State Archives in Raleigh, North Carolina. I also learned about another relative, who was the Governor of that state during the civil war years. His name is Zebulon Vance. I was able to examine the actual handwritten letters between Robert E. Lee and Zebulon Vance as they discussed the matter of Salisbury Prison, where 10,700 soldiers would die in one winter. One who died there was also a relative. It is through the Vance line that we connect to Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson's father was Joseph Jackson, his mother was Elizabeth Vance, my 8th great grand aunt. Jeff Goodlove

This day…

November 11, 1191: Richard set out from Jaffa to Jerusalem. He had run out of options and now had to follow a course of action about which he had grave doubts.[3]

November 11, 1534: By the Act of Supremacy on November 11, 1534, Henry had Parliament name him and his successors supreme head on earth of the Church of England, giving him the right to make all ecclesiastical appointments, and requiring all clergymen to swear allegiance to himself instead of the Pope. By the ‘Act of Dissolution Henry dissolved most of the monasteries. Most of the spoils of the monasteries went to the Crown or to the Tudor nobility and gentry. [4]

November 11, 1586: On November 11th, 1586, John MacKinnand of Lock Slahan, is mentioned along with many other Highlanders in a complaint against them for making the South country fishermen pay heavy exactions.[5]

1587:Resuming our chronological order, we find that in the year 1587 one of the greatest feuds that ever raged between Highland clans, commenced between the MacLeans and Macdonalds. It is recorded, that at length Macdonald (through mediation) agreed, on receiving a promise of pardon for his crimes, to allow his prisoner MacLean to be set free, but eight hostages of rank had to be given, and among them were Lauchlan and Neill, sons of Lauchlan MacKinnon of Strathordell. MacLean, regardless of the safety of his hostages, wasted Macdonald's lands during his absence in Ireland, whereon Macdonald retaliated, but luckily not on the hostages, who were ultimately demanded and taken by force from Macdonald (who was then outlawed), for he refused to deliver them up to the king and council.[6]

Since John Vance did all except cut his daughter Hannah Crawford out of his last will and testament, yet we may appreciate fact that he mentioned her by name. Otherwise her identity would have been forever lost and no one would discover who her parents really were; as many times was the case in the older records. However John Vance may have provided for Hannah in another way at an earlier date and this too is the case in many of the older wills; where sometimes the child is not mentioned at all.

Bringing to memory the date mentioned herein, which was the beginning of the French and Indian War and during this period, the whole of the English colonies were in a deplorable state. As our in 1774, that the times were then as they were in the Shenandoah Valley in 1755.

November 11, 1901

On August 28, 1942 Convoy 25 left Drancy, France for Auschwitz with 285 children. On board was Salomon Gottlob born December 2, 1934 in Anvers, France age seven, and his sister Tama Gottlob, born May 17, 1940, age 2. Their home was L.de demark. (5) Prison, Orleans. Prior to deportation to Auschwitz they were held at Camp Pithiviers[12]. Pithiviers is of global historical interest as one of the locally infamous World War II concentration camps where children were separated from their parents while the adults were processed and deported to camps farther away, usually Auschwitz. [13]

Also on board was Bension Gotlob, born November 11, 1901 from Pologne, France, and Regina Gotlop born November 25, 1898 from Tarnow, Poland.[14]

November 11, 1918 : The armistice ended the great war.[15] The German Government signs an armistice treaty in a railroad car in the forest of Compiegne, France, ending World War I.[16]

November 1918

The flu ends. It killed 550,000 Americans in 10 months. It killed at 30,000,000 worldwide, while infecting the entire human species. As soon as the dying stopped the forgetting began.[17]

1919

During the negotiations in Paris to determine the German reparations to be paid because of their responsibility in WWI the Germans send three expert Jewish bankers named Notger, Worberg and Wasser feeling that they will ensure the best possible treaty. 500,000 Jews fought in the German army. [18]

The terms of the treaty are harsher than the Germans ever imagined. Germany will be paralysed for generations.

“Gentlemen,

We have no illusions about the extent of our powerlessness. We know the force of German weapons is crushed. We recognize the power of hatred facing us and we heard the passionate demand that the victors shall make us pay as the defeated ones and punish us as the conquered ones. We are expected to admit that we alone are guilty. For me, to make such an admission would be a lie. The treaty which our enemies have laid before us is, in so far as the French dictated it, is a monument of pathological fear and pathological hatred, and in so far as the Anglo-Saxons dictated it, it is the work of a capitalistic policy of the most brutal and capitalistic kind.

Brockdorff Rantzau

The German negotiators quit. After five months of negotiations, Italy’s government falls. Mussolini, is in. The mapmakers have redrawn the borders of Europe, the Middle East, the far East and Africa.

Two days before the signing, the Germans scuttle their entire fleet. Their pride wont let the Allies have their warships.

The Treaty of Versaille will be signed. It will be repudiated by the Germans. Germany will pay 10 Billion dollars. China will not sign. Wilson has alienated a half billion people. Vittorio Orlando does not sign, and does not get his port. Benito Mussolini promises to do better. Wilson returns to lobby for the League of Nations.

The Great War is finally over. [19]

• November 11, 1942

• Southern France is occupied by the Germans and Italians.[22]

I Get Email!

Hi. Hope this finds all well with you. I'm working on my Grandpa (Willis) Goodlove's family again. Realized that I do not have a portrait photo of Willis' brother, Earl Lee. I have one family photo that includes all the children, but would like to have a solo portrait photo of Earl. Do either of you have one that you could share?

As ever, Linda
