In a message dated 4/27/2011 10:00:43 A.M. Central Daylight Time, JPT@donationnet.net writes:

Dear Jeff,

President Obama has stepped up his secret talks with the Taliban. He believes that the moderate members can be utilized to broker an end to the Afghan war.

In March 2009, an Afghanistan security conference was held in The Hague, Holland. At the conference, I was the first to confront Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding her statements about the "moderate" Taliban. I asked Secretary Clinton, "What is your basis for believing there is a moderate Taliban?" All of the Taliban support Shari'a law where women are forced to wear a burqa when in public, and are not allowed to work or be educated after the age of eight. They face public floggings and executions for violations of Taliban laws.

Rather than respond to my question, Ms. Clinton turned her head in the opposite direction and asked for the next question. After the press conference, ministers of the Afghan government invited me to join them for a private dinner. They told me softly, "You are absolutely correct. There is no moderate Taliban."

The Taliban was overthrown by Operation Enduring Freedom after the September 11 attack. Most fled to neighboring Pakistan where they regrouped as an insurgent movement to fight the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The group became a safe harbor for Osama bin Laden. According to a report to the UN, the Taliban was responsible for more than 75 percent of all civilian casualties in 2010.

As a show of good faith, the Obama administration is working on a request to open a Taliban political office most likely in one of the Gulf States. With such an office, there could be direct talks between the group and the Afghan government. If the plan goes well, it could lead to an office in Afghanistan for the fanatical group.

In recent months, the U.S. government has quietly dropped its preconditions that the Taliban sever links with al Qaeda and accept the Afghan constitution before holding face-to-face talks. Instead, the U.S. has said that those conditions must be met at the end of the talks.

The first target date is a presidential speech in July to mark the planned first withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. It is likely that President Obama will sketch out his new strategy, including his first public admission that his administration is talking to the Taliban. The next date is in December when a conference in Germany marks the meetings ten years ago that created the post-Taliban government in Kabul.

Most of the top generals, including General Petraeus, believe all NATO forces in Afghanistan will be replaced over the next nine months. The Obama administration wants to shift from military to political strategy. The endgame has begun in Afghanistan. The legitimization of the Taliban will open Pandora's Box for democracy-loving Afghans, and especially the women. The Taliban in Pakistan would then be emboldened to ultimately take control of that nuclear-armed country in the same way they will regain control of Afghanistan. It appears that in the end, Obama will cut a don't ask, don't tell deal with Shi'a Iran to partner with the U.S. so it can leave Afghanistan.

Stabilizing the Shi'a population in the country is critical to an exit strategy and is a calculated move in exchange for Iran going nuclear. The Obama plan commits the United States to a Jimmy Carter-style slippery slope paramount to dancing with an Islamic gorilla. The dance will not be over until the gorilla—the Taliban—says it's over. The hatred of the Islamists for America...and Israel...drives everything they do, and no concessions will ever change that.

The final Branze Age center of Hallstatt, so called after the cemetery found near Hallstatt in the Salzkammergut of Austria, and based on the Urnfield center, developed into the Early Iron Age. A prerequisite for this development was the multiple deposits of iron ore which made possible the development of iron production and industries. The second most important industry was salt-mining at Hallstatt itself and at Durnberg near Hallein. In these quickly developing economic centres an ever increasing social differentiation into peasants, craftsmen and traders took place, as work processes became more complex.[5]

May 7, 350: Gallus, who had been appointed “Caesar” of the East by his cousin, the Emperor Constantius II arrived in Antioch. Antioch was the capital of his domain which included Palestine. At the time of his arrival a revolt broke out among the Jews of Sepphoris, a town in Palestine and spread to the Galilee and Lydda. According to different sources, the revolt was led by Isaac who came from Sepphoris and a little known figure named Patricus. The revolt was not anti-Christian even though Constantius II had given the Church free reign in a campaign of persecution aimed at the Jews and other non-Christians. The revolt may have been aimed at the corrupt rule by Gallus. Or it may have been a last gasp effort by the Jews in Palestine to gain freedom from Rome. This was a period of great instability in the Empire and the Jewish leaders may have been encouraged by reports of Imperial defeats in the western part of the Empire. They also may have thought that the Persians, who were enemies of the Roman Empire, would come to their aid. The revolt lasted only a year and was put down by Uriscinnus, one of Gallus’ more seasoned commanders who probably defeated the Jewish forces at a battle near Acco. The Romans moved south laying waste to Tiberia, Sepphoris and Lydda, each of which was rebuilt after the fighting stopped. [Editors Note: Considering the fact that this revolt took place 280 years after the Great Revolt and 215 years after the Bar Kochba Revolt, it would seem to indicate that there was a sizeable Jewish population still living in Palestine, that the population was made up of a handful of scholars, that the Nasi did not control all aspects of Jewish life, that Jews make lousy subjects and that Jews do not seem to learn from their “mistakes.”][10]

May 7, 1205: Coronation of King Andrew II of Hungary. At first during his reign of King Andrew II appointed Jews to serve as Chamberlains and mint-, salt-, and tax-officials. The nobles of the country, however, induced the king, in his Golden Bull (1222), to deprive the Jews of these high offices. When Andrew needed money in 1226, he farmed the royal revenues to Jews. This led to an outcry from his Christian subjects. Pope Honorius III excommunicated him In 1233, he took an oath promising the papal ambassadors that he would enforce the decrees of the Golden Bull directed against the Jews and the Saracens. In addition to which he would enforce the new popes decrees that forced Jews to wear badges of identification and forbid them from buying or keeping Christian slaves.[11]

May 7, 1355: Twelve hundred Jews of Toledo Spain were killed by Count Henry of Trastamara. The Jews were caught between the opposing forces in a fight between King Peter and Count Henry, his half-brother who sought the throne for himself. The events surrounding this dynastic quarrel marked the beginning of the decline of the Jewish community in Spain.[12]
Master Josset (Jocetus) had practiced very successfully in Freiburg in Uchtland from 1356 until 1370 and received from the city a yearly fee as high as 10 lib. Lausanne currency. [13]

1361

Master Gutleben, his son Isaak and Mathis, had not come from Colmar or Heidelberg, but from Basel to Breiburg. Since Eberlin may have been one of the first Jews who, after the destruction of the Colmar Jewish community at the time of the Black Death, settled there again in 1361 at the latest, he himself had already in 1362, together with his family as well as the domestic servants he supported, been allowed protection dn favor in the bishop city of Basel, and very likely he was legally recruited, so to speak, away from the city of Comar by delegates from Basel. Also Eberlin’s son in law Meyer, a step daughter, as well as Eberlin’s Aunt Sara came with their families in the following years. [14]

1362: In Minnesota a strange stone is unearthed covered with archaic Rune . The date carved into it is 1362. It’s thought to be from the Knights Templar’s coming to America. It was found on a modest farm in Kensington. It is one of most controversial artifacts in United States History. An early translation read…

Swedes and Norwgians on a journey of discovery from Vinland west- we camped one days journey from this stone- we fished one day – after we came home, we found men red with bood and dead- save from evil. Have men at the ocean to look after our ships. …days journey from this island. Year…

Another translation…

Eight Goths from Sweden and twenty two Norwegians, on a journey of discovery from the Vinland of the west. One days journey north from this stone we fished one day- after we came home, we found men red with blood and dead- save from evil. Have men at the ocean to look after our ships. Fourteen days journey from this island. Year 1362.[15]

While an authentic text incorporating all the elements of the Kensington stone has never been found, there is one place were most of the text and runes do appear. Among the sistertian churches that dot the tiny island of Gotland on the Baltic sea. Churches of the very people who founded the Knights Templar.

“Eight Gotlanders and 22 Norwegians on this acquisition journey far to the west from Vinland. We had a camp by two shelters, one days journey from this stone,’

We were fishing one day After…

Fourteen days journey from this island…

It reads like a land claim giving large, medium and small context to the stones location. It was very common to have Sistertian monks travel along. A sistertian monk could have been one of the Goth’s in the Kensington party. [16]

Either of two routes would have been 14 days canoe journey from where they left their boats. Some say they did leave clues. Several stones have stone holes in them. The stones triangulate and intersect to where the Kensington stone was found..

May 7, 1727: Two years after the death of Peter Great, Jews were expelled from Ukraine by his widow, Empress Catherine I of Russia. Catherine was merely following the wishes of her late husband who had stated that he did not want any Jews living in Russia. Daniil Pavlovich Apostol, the Hetman of the Cossacks, “was the first one to apply to the senate to modify the harsh law.” Eighty years ago, the Cossacks had driven the Jews from their lands. Since then, they had found out “that they could not get along very well without Jewish merchants” because they were indispensable when it came to facilitating commerce between the Ukraine and the Polish and Lithuanian provinces..[19]

May 7, 1756: The death of the old chief was thus noticed in the journals of the time: “May 7, 1756. Died at his house of Kilmorie, in the Isle of Skye, John MacKinnon of that ilk, i.e. the old Laird of MacKinnon, in 75th year of his age, leaving issue two sons and a daughter, all born after 71st year of his age.”

For the remainder of the century, few events in connection with the family are chronicled; the little property left to them in Skye was purchased in 1765 by the Trustees of the great and good Sir James MacDonald then a minor, from the Trustees of MacKinnon of MacKinnon when a minor also.[20]

Wednesday May 7, 1760: George Washington’s Journal: After taking the Doctrs. Valentine Crawford (d. 1777) lived near GW’s Bullskin plantation in Frederick County and was regularly hired to bring down GW’s mountain tobacco from those quarters.

May 7, 1763: Ottawa Indians led by Chief Pontiac attack the fort at Detroit.[21]

May 7, 1774: On May 7, 1774, on the breaking out of

Dunmore's Indian War, brought about by the slaughter of Logan's

relatives on Yellow Greek, erroneously blamed upon Michael Cresap,

Valentine Crawford, the brother of Captain William Crawford,

writing from Jacob's Greek on the Youghiogheny to George Wash-

ington, described the alarm of the settlers. "This alarm," said he,

"caused the people to move from over the Monongahela, off Char-

tiers and Raccoon (Greek), as fast as ever you saw them in the

year 1756 or 1757, down in Frederick County, Virginia. There

were more than one thousand people crossed the Monongahela in

one day at three ferries that are not one mile apart." Washington-

Crawford Letters, 87. This indicates the extent of the settlements

in what was afterwards Washington County, in the spring of 1774,

shown more certainly by official records. [22]

Of the people who emigrated form the east to settle west of the Laurel Hill prior to 1780, a large proportion were form Virginia and Maryland, and many of them who had held slaves east of the mountains brought those slaves with them to their new homes in the West, for at that time the laws of Pennsylvania recognized and tolerated the”peculiar institution” as fully as did those of Virginia. Among these were the Crawfords, Stevensons, Harrisons, McCormicks, Vance, Wilson, and others. Frequent allusions to these “servants” are found in letters addressed to Col. Washington in 1774 and 1775 by Valentine Crawford, who resided on Jacob’s Creek, and acted as general agent in charge of Washington’s lands and affairs of improvement in this region. (See Jacob’s Creek, May 7, 1774.)[23]

Valentine Crawford to George Washington

JACOB’S CREEK, May 7, 1774.

DEAR SIR :—I am sorry to inform you the Indians have stopped all the gentlemen from going down the river. In the first place, they killed one Murphy, a trader, and wounded another; then robbed their canoes.[24] This alarmed the gentlemen very much; and Major Cresap took a party of men and waylaid some Indians in their canoes, that were going down the river, and shot two of them and scalped them. He also raised a party, took canoes and followed some Indians from Wheeling down to the Little Kanawba; when, coming up with them, he killed three and wounded several. The Indians wounded three of his men, only one of whom is dead; he was shot through, while the other two were but slightly wounded. On Saturday last, about 12 o’clock, one Greathouse, and about twenty men, fell on a party of Indians at the mouth of Yellow creek, and killed ten of them. They brought away one child a prisoner, which is now at my brother William Crawford’s.[25] These circumstances have put it out of my power to execute your business. I, therefore, came to a resolution to send my son down to you to let you know of this disagreeable disappointment, and to learn what I must do with your carpenters, servants, and goods. This alarm has caused the people to move from over the Monongahela, off Chartier’s and Raccoon [creeks], as fast as ever you saw them in the year 1756 or 1757, down in Frederick county, Virginia. There were more than one thousand people crossed the Monongahela in one day at three ferries that are not one mile apart.

Mr. Simpson seems much frightened at this alarm; but I went to him the day after I got home to Jacob’s creek, and offered him all the servants and some of the carpenters. As we were obliged to make our own canoes, some of the carpenters I had to retain to work on them. Just as I had got all our canoes and our provisions and everything ready to start, we were stopped by the alarms as above. I have stored all your goods and tools safely; and if the Indians should come to a pause, I am ready to start at the shortest warning.

Your servants are all in very good health, and if you should incline selling them, I believe 1 could sell them for cash out here to different people. My brother, William Crawford, wants two of them, and I would take two myself; or,if this disturbance should be settled, I could push down the river immediately and could do a great deal this fall. In the meantime, your men might build some houses at your Bottom or at the Great Meadows; or, as I mentioned, the carpenters would be willing to be discharged if you would be willing to employ them again as soon as this difficulty is over. Pray give me full particulars how to act in this troublesome affair. I am, etc.[26]

Note: The Massacre of Logan’s family and people at Yellow Creek by Daniel Greathouse, and the party of thirty-two borderers he had collected for the purpose, occurred on April 30, 1774.[27]

May 7, 1917: On May 7, the British-owned ocean liner Lusitania was torpedoed without warning just off the coast of Ireland. Of the nearly 2,000 passengers aboard, 1,201 were killed, including 128 Americans. The German government maintained, correctly, that the Lusitania was carrying munitions, but the U.S. demanded reparations and an end to German attacks on unarmed passenger and merchant ships. In August, Germany pledged to see to the safety of passengers before sinking unarmed vessels, but in November a U-boat sank an Italian liner without warning, killing 272 people, including 27 Americans. With these attacks, public opinion in the United States began to turn irrevocably against Germany. [37]

I Get Email!

Jeff,

I'll get the pages off this weekend, no cost. :)

I have attached a file from my program of the descendants of Elias

Gutleben. Please do not publish this on the web. The research is

shared by family members and individuals interested in research, but I

made a promise not to publish it on the web.

I spoke- very briefly- with my brother who flatly refuses to do a DNA

test. I don't know any other males in the line. The only others I

have known have all recently died. I have a son and myself to offer,

but that won't do any good, will it? This sound morbid, but I have

some of my father's ashes, but I assume any DNA would be destroyed.

I routinely and randomly search Gutleben on Google and other places.

This morning I came up with a person's family site in France who has

many Gutlebens in the right place and right time to be families of

interest. I'm going to try to contact them in English and hope they

know some.

This genealogy work is so interesting. I found out after the fact and

by accident that my first husband's family came from the same area in

Alsace. I even found a picture of some of the modern family members

together in a band in Alsace.

Years ago, I brought to the attention of some relatives, now passed,

that I believed we were originally Jews who converted. I showed them

some articles I had read. This was not taken very well, as they were

very devout Christians. My interest in the study is to prove we were.

I doubt that first hand documents exist any longer. But, I believe it

in my bones, and if there is any such thing as genetic memory, then I

have it. From my very earliest memory- before I even understood

religion- I felt myself to be Jewish and have never been able to fully

embrace the New Testament. Maybe that is too much information, but it

is a curiosity in my life that drives my research.

Between my grandmother, mother and I we have completed- if such a

thing exists- the genealogy lines on my mother's side. My father's

mother's side is done, too. All that's left for me to do is prove the

link to the Jewish Gutleben/Gottlieb.

Looking over my notes again, I see that I made mistakes in the dates I

gave you, but you will see when you get the pages. The first date is

1356 and the last is 1425 per the German article. It takes a few

reads to get the gist of the article, but then it makes sense. I see

from the LDS site that I can probably find more links, but I try not

to rely on their info. After the last date in the German article

there is my earliest document proven ancestor born 1728. That's a lot

of years between but even a cursory look at LDS tells me it's not

impossible to find some records that match. That will be my next big

challenge. Though, I do feel very confident that the two lines meet.

I just have to prove it. If that's possible.

My husband works with a person named Goodlove. He is going to talk to

him for me. Maybe he would be interested in your study.

How many unique surnames have been linked in your study?

Sorry to be so long. After you get the pages feel free to ask questions.

Alice

Alice,

Thank you for the attachment. I will not post it on the web. I understand your brothers feelings about the DNA test. Unfortunately we will never know if there is a connection unless a test is taken. Hopefully another relative will surface that will agree to take the test or your brother will change his mind. Taking the test is easy, You just take a qtip, put it in your mouth, then put it in the bag, and send it in the mail. Thank you for offering your fathers ashes, however I don't think that we could use them for this test. It is interesting that you feel that your family is of Jewish ancestry. Is there any evidence of this? The unique DNA that those of this project have is linked to the Cohen Modal Haplotype. This was a groundbreaking study that proved that there indeed was a link or line of priestly families that are believed to extend back to Aaron, Moses' brother. So if your brother has this DNA it is undoubtedly a fact that at some point your family was of Jewish Ancestry.

I understand how your family responded about your feelings that you were of Jewish Ancestry. You should have been at our family reunion when I announced this discovery about our DNA.

If you are unsuccessful in your attempt to contact someone in Germany etc. in English with a language barrier let me know and I could find someone in this DNA circle who could do this for us.

I encourage you to restep your research and see if there is possibly another male of this line out there.

It is interesting that your husband works with a Goodlove. I can tell you now, not even knowing who he is, that he is a relative. I am curious who it is. Like your family, there are not very many of us.

In anwer to your question about surnames. It is my understanding that prior to the 17 or 18th century, Jews did not have last names. At some point they were forced to take last names so people chose names that discribed their profession, like Cohen, that means "Priest" etc. The point is that family members who were spread out took different names so that now even though their DNA matches, their last names sometimes don't. In our list there are names like Cohen and derivitives of such, but also other names. I hope that answers your question.

Please keep in touch.

[24] For ten years immediately following Pontiac’s war, there was peace upon the Western border; but it was a nominal one; for, during the whole time from 1764 to 1774, murders were frequent—committed sometimes by the savages, and at other times by the whites. Neither side was prepared by a continuous forbearance to avoid a conflict which, sooner or later, wonld be surely brought on between them. “The surveyors that went down the Kanawha,” wrote William Crawford, two days after the above letter was written by his brother Valentine, “as report goes, were stopped by the Shawanese Indians.” This, as he understood it, was the first act in the bloody drama of 1774. But Valentine Crawford had quite another report to give of the “beginning of the end:” “In the first place, they [the Indians] killed one Murphy, a trader, and wounded another; then robbed their canoes.” Doubtless, among the Indians, the first overt act was charged up to the Long Knives. It is certain there were aggressions on both sides.

[25] The exact date of this exploit of Greathouse and party, usually known as the “Yellow creek massacre,” so long a matter of uncertainty, is fixed by the above, beyond a peradventure—saturday April 30, 1774. The Mingo, Logan’s brother, known as John Petty, his mother and sister—the latter the mother of the child, then only two months old—were all slain. The child-prisoner being Logan’s niece, it follows that his relatives were not all killed.
